Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Tourism, Wildlife & Heritage of Kenya, Hon. Peninah Malonza on Sunday afternoon 10 September 2023, joined the Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, Felix Koskei, who presided over the donation a patrol vehicle to the Tourist Police Unit (TPU), in Gede, Kilifi County. This is a remarkable display of commitment to tourism and ensuring the safety of visitors to the East African country.
Tourist Police Unit serves as a crucial bridge between tourists and the local authorities, working tirelessly to maintain law and order, addressing concerns, and providing assistance. With the high season approaching, the influx of tourists escalates, placing additional demands on the resources available to the TPU.
Recognizing the importance of supporting the police force, the decision was made to donate a patrol vehicle, empowering them with the necessary means to effectively carry out their duties. The vehicle will serve as a symbol of the Ministry’s commitment to tourism and will undoubtedly enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of Tourist Police Unit.
During the ceremony, the CS emphasized that equipping the police force with a reliable means of transportation will enable them to respond swiftly to emergencies and provide timely assistance to tourists.
In addition to the vehicle donation, Koskei announced plans of collaborating with the Ministry of Interior and National administration. “The collaboration will focus on establishing a framework for cooperation, information sharing, and joint initiatives focused on ensuring the safety of tourists. Comprehensive training programs and the implementation of advanced technology solutions will be key components of this partnership,” said Koskei.
By working hand in hand, Tourist Police Unit and the Ministry of Interior and National Administration aim to leave no stone unturned in their efforts to provide a secure environment for tourists. Together, they strive to create an environment where visitors can explore, discover, and create memories that will last a lifetime.
