Reunion Departmental Archives Receive St. Ange’s Books

The Reunion Island’s Departmental Council has been presented with two recently published books about Alain St. Ange, the former Minister of Tourism of the Seychelles. The two books which are; “Alain & Ginette St. Ange, Family Ties” and “Alain St. Ange, A Life in Tourism”  will now be included in the research section of the Departmental Archives of La Reunion, the French Overseas Department.

The presentation of the two books was made to Ismael Locate, the Deputy Director of the Departmental Archives at Hotel du Department in Saint Denis on the 23rd of January 2024, by the well-respected tourism icon himself, Alain St.Ange who is on a working visit to Reunion Island.

Following discussions on the books and the Seychellois Families with direct links to Reunion, Alain St. Ange was received by Teddy Sovet, the Director of the President’s Office to again discuss publications and historical ties between the two Indian Ocean Islands.

Reunion Island Officials have encouraged Mr. St. Ange to work to try to get the book that retraces so many Seychellois Families into French and in so doing open its potential to the many Reunionais using the research documents at the Departmental Archives. Alain St. Ange thanked Reunion and its Department Archives for placing the two Seychelles Books into their research department.

Meanwhile, Michelle St. Ange-Ebrahim, daughter of Alain St. Ange was last week sworn in as a Notary by the Seychelles Chief Justice Ronny Govinden. Michelle is the latest young Attorney-At-Law of the Seychelles to also qualify as Notary after the required years of practice as a lawyer.

She studied law and psychological science in Queensland in Australia and passed her Bar in Seychelles. She worked for the Attorney General before joining the Chambers of Kieran B. Shah in Victoria where she completed her pupillage before joining the Chief Justice Chamber as a legal researcher. Michelle St. Ange-Ebrahim is married to Ameer Ebrahim, a Marine Biologist and together they have a young son Adam.
