A 90-day Visa Waiver Agreement has been reached between Ghana and the Republic of South Africa for citizens and passport holders of both countries. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Ghana announced the visa waiver for persons with ordinary South African passports.
Corroborating the agreement, the South African High Commission in Ghana in a separate statement said, ordinary passport holders from Ghana are expected to apply for a visa to enter South Africa at the end of 90-day stay.
According to the statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of the West African country, the agreement is set to bring about significant changes for travellers between these two nations.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration wishes to inform the general public that the Republic of Ghana and the Republic of South Africa have entered into an Agreement on a visa waiver regime for holders of ordinary passports,” part of the statement read.
The Visa Waiver Agreement is scheduled to take effect from November 1, 2023, marking a significant milestone in the diplomatic relations between Ghana and South Africa, the statement added.
Under the terms of this agreement, the statement said travellers holding ordinary passports from both countries will no longer require visas for certain visits.
“Travellers may transit through, depart from and stay in the territory of both countries for a cumulative period of up to ninety (90) recourse to work. The travelling public is thereby advised to take note,” the statement concluded.
On their part, the statement from the South Africa High Commission in Ghana which was dated 13 October 2023, stated that “both governments agreed to implement the waiver for visa exemption for ordinary passport holders for a cumulative period of ninety (90) days per annum, with effect from 01 November 2023.”
Meanwhile, in a related development, the Ethiopian Immigration and Citizenship Service has also recently started offering tourist visas on arrival for citizens and passport holders of 122 countries.
