Countdown to 2023 PYNE-NESG Africa Tourism Conference & Tourism Hackathon 2.0


The Pyne Hospitality Company LLC & Zigona Advisory in collaboration with Tourism and Hospitality Industries Thematic Group (THITG) of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) presents the PYNE – NESG Africa Tourism Conference 2023, scheduled for September 6 – 7, 2023 at the Eko Hotels & Suites Convention Centre, Victoria Island in Lagos, Nigeria.

Themed, “Tourism in Africa: Catalyst For Accelerated Economic Empowerment,” the conference aims to bring together tourism policy makers, industry experts and pioneers from different parts of Africa to address some of the issues mitigating against intra-African Travel in the African Tourism Sector and exchange ideas on best practices to increase international arrivals into the continent while protecting the environment, cultural and historical values.

Strategic Thrust of the Event:

  • To promote sustainable development initiatives, enhance easy access within Africa, improve the effectiveness of domestic travel and intra-African travel.
  • To analyze more effective ways the public and private sectors can ensure tourism in Africa is globally competitive, profitable.
  • Highlight the linkages between Tourism, Sports, Creative and Cultural industries in Africa for a stronger and more robust tourism dynamic.
  • Explore ways technology can improve travel and tourism activities Africa.
  • Advance ways modalities inclusive development of Tourism in Africa as a means of meeting the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal for Women and Youth economic empowerment especially in rural communities.

Conference Objectives

  • Agree on how optimized Tourism Governance Frameworks can significantly enable/drive increased intra-African tourism in an era of continental integration promotion
  • Agree on viable ways for ease of travel within Africa, this includes transportation, immigration processes and laws, digital information on destination, security and destination branding & marketing.
  • Boost domestic travel in each African country
  • Increase African Tourism Offerings by linking a synergy between Tourism and the Sports, Creatives Entertainment and Culture industries for a more robust African Tourism experience.
  • Promote the use of technology for efficient and seamless tourism experience in Africa.
  • Create sectoral opportunities for women and youth as a means of poverty alleviation and rural development.

Meanwhile, the second edition of the Tourism Hackathon will be held in collaboration with the 2023 PYNE-NESG Tourism Africa Conference.

Tourism Hackathon Nigeria emerged as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on the tourism industry in 2020. The need for innovative solutions to revitalize the industry became evident, prompting the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) to advocate for a rethinking of tourism.

Created to harness talent and ideas that could accelerate the growth of the domestic travel and tourism industry, the inaugural edition of Tourism Hackathon Nigeria took place at the UNWTO Global Conference in November 2022, showcasing Nigeria’s potential as a tourism hub and promoting diversity and innovation. Stakeholders, including industry players, investors, policymakers, and enthusiasts, are invited to join this exciting event.
